food
After more than two years living as nomads and pedaling on the bicycle every single day, we developed an awarness of our bodies and how they behave to different kind of 'fuel'. We started to make experiments with various nutrition, noticing the difference of physcial and menthal strenght, as well as pains in joints, bones and muscles.
While I write here about our findings, it is very individual and the responsibility for healthy eating is left to the reader.
After we returned to Europe from suffering hunger, not enough varied foods and loss of several kilograms in Westafrica, we literally ran into supermarkets to buy sweets and a high amount of diary products as butter, yoghurt and cheese. We celebrated for several days the variety and availability of all these products. Already on the next day we noticed pain in our joints, especially our knees and fingerjoints started to sore on every movement. We started to think about why this now happens, is it the colder and more humid climate? But in the Maroccon mountains we also had very cold and rainy days, but we never felt pain in our joints. What else changed? The nutrition! As an experiment, we decided to imidiately stopp eating diary and products made out of animals. We followed a vegan and glutenfree meal preparation. Amazingly the pain stopped. We started to feel healty, powerfull, awake and suffered no more joint pains. From then on we kept eating vegan. When we reached England and Ireland we found a great variety of pre processed vegan food, like burgers and vegetal diary substitutes in stores. So we got a bit lazy, coconut milk with chia seeds for breakfast, vegetal butter + cheese on industrial glutenfree toast bred for lunch and vegetal burgers and salads for dinner. Slowely bad suddenly I got literally thin skin, it was shocking. Even opening a can of Chickpeas with my swiss army knife resulted in bloody hands. I started to have wounds all over my body, everytime a pedal hit my shin, i started to bleed heavily and worst of all, the wounds did not start to heal. I got a crisis, thought that I might have catched a disease which will slowely destroy my body. Again, we started to discuss what changed in our life, again we realised its the food, but this time we ate a lot of heavy processed foods, containing a lot of industrial chemical substances. That moment felt quite tense. We started to bake our own glutenfree bread, stopped buying vegan diary products and after a few weeks my wounds were healed and the skin had its robustnes back. In Germany we got invited to sleep at an eldery womans place. For breakfast she served us müsli with oats, fruits and a big load of cream. She told us that she has big problems with joint ache and that it gets worse every year. Even though she is eating the so called healthy and rich on calcium diary products. We told here about our experience, but we dont know if she after our visit ever tried to avoid eating diary products to see if the pain goes away. We learned that in our world, most people just beleive what the food- and healtindustry is selling them as healty. They beleive that several diseases are normal in a certain age and for sure that they are not irreversible. Hopeless accepting their destiny without taking action in self responsibility of their own body.
